Transforming End of Life Care: The Impact of GSF Accreditation

Read about the impact of GSF across all sectors.

The Gold Standards Framework (GSF) Accreditation Quality Hallmark Award stands as a beacon of quality for end of life care, nationally recognised as a kitemark for excellence. Co-badged by The Care Quality Commission, Care England, National Care Forum, National Care Association and The British Geriatrics Society, among others. GSF is at the forefront of ensuring Gold Standard care for individuals as they approach the end of their lives. GSF is also an information source for CQC inspections for hospitals.

Recently, we conducted a survey with GSF Accredited organisations to gauge the impact of GSF on their practices. The results were overwhelmingly positive, with 85% of accredited organisations strongly agreeing that GSF has significantly improved the experience of care for both residents and their families.

Key Findings:

  1. Improving Morale and Teamwork: 73% of respondents strongly agree that the use of GSF has improved the morale and teamwork among their staff.
  2. Positive Impact on Staff Wellbeing: 67% of respondents strongly agree that the use of GSF has positively impacted the wellbeing of their staff.
  3. Enhanced Job Satisfaction: 74% of respondents strongly agree that the use of GSF has led to increased job satisfaction among their staff.
  4. Personalising Care through Advance Care Planning: An impressive 87% of respondents strongly agree that GSF has had a positive impact on personalising the care they provide through advance care planning.

A hospital representative stated that “being proactive and not reactive in a busy hospital is a huge culture shift but very much welcomed.”

A care home reported a 62% reduction in hospital admissions over the last 3 years, highlighting the effectiveness of GSF.

A Primary Care Practice expressed appreciation for a more structured and evidence-based approach to supporting frailer patients.

GSF Accreditation empowers organisations to adopt a systematic and sustainable approach to supporting individuals in living well and dying well. The accreditation process encourages networking, sharing experiences, and continuous development.

“GSF Accreditation not only increases public trust and respect but also enhances staff morale, ensuring that service users receive the optimal level of care on their life journey.” Gaynor Pitman, Accreditation Lead
