Welcome. The launch of the Next Stage GSF - Going for Gold on 30th June 2009 recognises the central role of nurses in providing excellence in end of life care. This is the start of a three year programme to give high quality care for all by 2012. District nurses are in a key position to take a lead for developing quality care in general practices and care homes. Specialist nurses also have a strategic role in sharing best practice across organisations. Another development in GSF is the emphasis on cross boundary working with hospitals, hospices and care homes focussing particularly on how nurses can decrease un-necessary admissions and reduces the length of hospital stay by close liaison and careful pre-planning to avoid crises. We also have a keen group piloting use of the framework itself within acute hospital settings.
