Enabling a gold standard of care for all people nearing the end of life

Commissioning GSF

We at the National GSF Centre have a developed a number of specific training programmes and other resources that can be commissioned by PCTs and other commissioning bodies (see Information for Commissioners). These include commissioning:

  • The Gold Standards Framework Care Homes Training Programme (see GSF Care Homes Briefing Paper), if you are interested in clarifying the cost of this for your area or home, please contact the GSF Central team for the latest Care Homes costing paper. Various options are available which include bringing the programme to your area for a minimum of 30 homes, to include the training and or the accreditation process. Full support is provided to PCTs and local commissioners and support and training to your local facilitators as part of this programme, plus use of before and after analysis audit for all care homes involved. This highly successful programme enables care homes to become accredited with the Quality Hallmark Award, which means they attain all the 12 DH Quality Markers (5.1 to 5.12) and attain the Skills for Care/Health End of Life Care Competencies and are likely to meet the future CQC Inspection Criteria (from 2010).
  • The Gold Standards Framework Primary Care Training Programme - Going for Gold. This new practice based training programme will be available from November 09 as a practice workbook, plus DVDs providing interactive training sessions for the whole practice team, which may or may not be locally facilitated. There are two options available - one as a full Quality Development package, with ADA Before and After, Good Practice Guide, support for facilitators, feedback to practices and PCTs etc, and secondly the training programme and ADA alone. Please see further details in the GSF Care Homes Briefing Paper and Information for Commissioners. Practices completing the course will be able to proceed to Quality Recognition/Accreditation from 2010.
  • GSF Acute Hospitals - see Phase 2 Flyer
  • After Death Analysis (ADA) Audit Tool - various options are available, including a repeat of the National Primary Care Audit for all deaths in a 2 month period. Various bespoke arrangements can also be developed, contact the ADA Helpdesk and please see ADA Briefing Paper.

For any further consultancy or guidance please contact the National GSF Centre directly.

By undertaking any of the above, several local National targets will be achieved, see table for achieving your goals in the Information for Commissioners paper below.
